Special Olympics
Alaska Jim Balamaci
Training Center

Building History:

The Jim Balamaci Training Facility is one of four Special Olympics programs in the United States to boast its own dedicated sports facility. Initially, the administrative and weight rooms were inaugurated in 2006 for public use. Then, in 2014, the remaining section of the building was unveiled, featuring an indoor track, a full-size basketball court, a spacious conference room, and locker rooms. Originally serving as the exclusive training venue for Special Olympics Alaska, in 2018, the facility underwent a renaming ceremony to become the Special Olympics Alaska Jim Balamaci Training Facility. This change honored the memory of Jim Balamaci, their late President/CEO, whose unwavering dedication spanning over 40 years laid the foundation for the existence of our training facility today.
